Contemplative youth ministry is an invitation to slow down and receive the young people in our lives. It’s a reminder that what young people need most are people who know how to be present to God and present to others. What would it be like if our ministries were filled with adults who not only spoke the words of Jesus but also embodied the presence of Jesus? How would our youth respond if adult Christians engaged youth with patience and transparency? What would it mean for our own lives if we could become people who sought to be present and receptive to what God brings us in life instead of hurriedly striving towards the next task or project? Contemplative youth ministry is an attempt to honor the desire to listen as well as teach within our interactions with kids. It’s an effort to ground our ministries in prayer as well as evangelism; in silence as well as acts of justice. Contemplative youth ministry is about refusing to be so busy that you overlook God within your ministry. It’s remembering that Jesus goes before and beside us. Read a review of Mark's book here. Last February, Contemplative Youth Ministry was released in the U.K. Read a recent review.
